Need to reduce duplicate users being created during the AD sync process

Can we improve the AD sync process in Workspace? If we are syncing a user with an active email address that already exists in the database, can we do some further checks before creating a duplicate user? such as if there is a job title change to the account, the user’s role has changed, the users acocunt was inactive in AD, then made active.
